ELECTRONICS SURROUND US

It can feel good to be the first person in school or at work to have the latest gadget or toy. Others might envy you, and you feel “cool” as an early adopter of the new technology. Unfortunately, a lot of gadgets and games never catch on, and a few months after they come out, they get replaced by another product or system. Later generations of electronics are always better and less expensive than the first, so keep yours a little longer.

To ensure a long life, keep your electronics free of dust and lint. Also, store them in an environment free of airborne smoke, oil, or other sticky substances. Wipe flat surfaces with a damp cloth, brush away dust with a soft brush, or use a canned air duster to remove particles from battery compartments or other small spaces.

When it is time, the Improvement Authority is making it easier for Cumberland County residents to properly dispose of outdated electronics, household batteries, and compact fluorescent bulbs. Beginning in January, residents may bring these items free of charge to one of six permanent “Universal Waste” drop-off locations throughout the County.

For more information about Universal Waste or other recycling programs in Cumberland County, call the Improvement Authority at 825-3700 or visit our Web site at www.ccia-net.com.
